HOW FAR IS AN XRACE?
XRACE is a mystery adventure race. Each XRACE is unique and there is no set course. Competitors must complete all the challenges in an event and may cover the distances between challenges in any order. Distance covered will probably be between 4-6km - less than a round of golf - and teams may walk or run.
HOW TO XRACE:
• It is important that you arrive on time. Allow 60 minutes before the start of your event to register, collect your race packs and get ready to XRACE.
• Pay attention to the instructions and rules that will be given before the event during briefing and in the race week email that is sent to all competitors.
• All teams will line up at the start line. The start gun goes and you are off to collect your first challenge card. After that anything is possible, you just need to follow the instructions of the XRACE marshals.
• XRACE is a team event and unless specifically required by a challenge, you must stay together as a team at all times – i.e. parent and child.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
You will be provided with an XRACE t-shirt which must be worn during the competition. You must also pin your XRACE competitor number to the front of your XRACE t-shirt, below the XRACE logo. You must also wear the provided timing chip.
XRACE challenges may involve water, mud and physical exertion, so we recommend you dress appropriately in old clothes, covered toe shoes and your swimming togs underneath your clothing in case you encounter water.
WHAT DO I BRING?
Checklist of what you should bring along:
• Swimming togs on (underneath your clothing) - you may or may not be getting wet
• Towel
• Change of clothing for after your XRACE
• Comfortable athletic clothing - like shorts, running shoes and cap
• Sunscreen
• Water bottle
• Raincoat – if it rains, we race and get wet
• Picnic for team and family supporters for after XRACE. Prize giving is held straight after the Nippers Challenge.
• Your own medication if required
IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD NOT BRING?
• Mobile phones or electronic devices may get wet during the event.
• Please no pets at this event.
• This is a drug and alcohol free event. We are also smoke free.
WHO CAN XRACE?
XRACE is a team challenge where kids aged 7-12 and their mum or dad race together, side by side.
MY MUM OR DAD CAN’T MAKE IT, CAN I RACE WITH SOMEONE ELSE?
Yes, you can enter with another adult family member, over the age of 18, as a Deputy Mum or Deputy Dad.
CAN I RACE WITH BOTH MUM AND DAD?
No, XRACE is for teams of 2 people only - one child and one parent.
CAN I RACE WITH 2 KIDS AT THE SAME TIME?
No, XRACE is for teams of 2 people only - one child and one parent.
CAN CHILDREN UNDER 7 RACE?
Children under 7 cannot do XRACE but they can enter NIPPERS. Click here for more.
CAN 13 YEAR-OLD CHILDREN RACE?
All children must be 12 years of age at the first event of the season – 15 February, 2014. If the child turns 13 after this date, they are eligible to enter XRACE and will compete in the senior division.
YEAR 9 STUDENTS
No child attending College or is a YEAR 9 student can compete for any AGE-GROUP awards – regardless of their age. They can compete in the XRACE GRAND FINAL in Rotorua but are ineligible for merit prizes.
HOW LONG DOES XRACE TAKE?
XRACE should take most teams between 45 minutes to 90 minutes to complete.
DO WE GET TIMED/PLACED?
XRACE is a race. At Brand New Day we believe in winners AND losers. Each XRACE gets a full online timing results sheet, with competitors split by age group.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY TIMING CHIP?
Chips are issued at registration. If you forget or lose your chip in the time between registration and event start, we will issue you with a new chip for $25 cash. Bond is refundable on return of the lost chip.
HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR THE FINAL?
Any team can register for the final. To qualify for the grand final, all you need to do is register and complete your local regional event. Click here for more.
​ARE THERE FINISH PHOTOS?
Once you have completed your XRACE, head over to our photography booth where we will professionally take your team photo, this can include your supporters as well.
Be sure to LIKE us on Facebook as we have created our own dedicated XRACE Facebook page, with which we shall post your XRACE Finish Photo directly to your Facebook wall as soon as the photo has been processed.
WHAT CAN I WIN?
There are some amazing prizes up for grabs at each XRACE but only one team can be crowned the XRACE Champions of New Zealand. The winning team will receive a family trip for 4 to the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. This winning package will include 7 nights’ accommodation in a two-bedroom apartment, rental car and an unlimited family pass to all the theme parks.
CAN I TRAIN FOR XRACE?
XRACE has no specific training, however, you should be able to comfortably walk or jog 5km. The best way to train for an XRACE is to get outside and start playing.
WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS A PHYSICAL/MEDICAL CONDITION?
On the entry form is a place for you to write down your child’s medical or physical condition. We request that you contact us and outline the condition if there is not enough room on the entry form. Please make sure our team know about it. We need to make sure that you will be safe on the day!
If the child does not feel well during the course of the event they can let a Help Team Volunteer or official know straight away. They will be able to look after your child and help them to receive attention from the medical or first aid staff on site.
DOES XRACE ACCOMMODATE SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS/ ADULTS?
We strongly believe XRACE is for everyone. Please contact us prior to registration so we can make sure we are able to accommodate you.

This event is expected to sell-out. Enter early to avoid disappointment.

ARE THERE POSTAL ENTRIES?
No. Entries can only be made online. Please note that we only accept Visa & MasterCard.
IS THERE A LIMIT TO HOW MANY TEAMS CAN ENTER XRACE?
Yes. At each event there are limited places so you will need to get in early to avoid being disappointed.
HOW MANY EVENTS CAN I ENTER?
You may enter as many XRACE events as you like. As mentioned earlier, XRACE events all have a competitor limit to them, so to guarantee a place on a start line somewhere, get in early!
There is no multiple event entry discount.
HOW SAFE IS XRACE?
We aim to provide your child with the safest possible event. There are volunteers who are there to assist as you should need it. Our volunteers will be wearing bright orange safety vests, so they will be easy to spot.
If your child has a medical and/or physical condition that may require assistance during the course, make sure that you tell us on your entry form when you register. This way, we can advise and make sure our crew or volunteers are there to help you if you need it.
In order to maintain absolute safety at all events we do ask that spectators please refrain from walking, running or sitting on any part of the course. Please listen and obey all officials on the course. They are there to assist in your participation in a fun and safe event.

DO I NEED TO GET ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT?
No, you just need to bring yourselves.

NIPPERS is open to children aged 6 and under on race day. Just like their older siblings NIPPERS will be timed over the Super Challenge obstacle course. For the entry fee NIPPERS will receive their very own NIPPERS PACK containing:

All sizes are available to all competitors, if your child is tall for their age, they may order adult sized t-shirts. Please note, women's shirts have a tapered cut and are not suitable for males. However, the male sizes are also suitable for females.

CAN I CHANGE MY SHIRT SIZE?

CAN I ORDER ANOTHER SHIRT?
Yes, you can order extra shirts as you register online.
REFUND POLICY:
We do not allow refunds, or transfers of registration.
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?
Typically, you'll get wet. That's because XRACE is an all-weather event. If necessary we will adjust the course to suit weather conditions.
CANCELLATIONS?
Like any great production - the show must go on. As stated above, XRACE is an all-weather event and will go on regardless of weather difficulties.
WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO ARRIVE?
Event check-in opens 90 minutes before your event start time. Give yourself plenty of time to park, register and relax before the start.
Keep in mind that at some events it may be difficult to find a parking space, therefore it might be a good idea to arrive early. Allow at least a half-hour for the check-in process, which includes getting your XRACE packs.
WHERE DO WE PARK?
Each event has different parking areas. Allow plenty of time to find a parking spot.
WILL FAMILY AND FRIENDS BE ABLE TO WATCH?
Yes, spectators will be able to see much of the event and access varies from venue to venue. Spectators are not allowed on the course or follow competitors.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE RACE?
Once the final competitors cross the finish line, the event age group awards will be held.
WHAT IS THE NIPPERS COMPETITION?
NIPPERS is a challenge open for children under the age of 7 and a parent/guardian. It is a challenge over the Super Challenge inflatable obstacle course, it isn't timed.
